Parent & Family Engagement

Family Engagement is an ongoing process that increases active participation, communication, and collaboration between parents, schools, and communities with the goal of educating the whole child to ensure student achievement and success.

Family engagement is vital to student success. Parents are their child’s first teacher and parents are partners with teachers in the education of their students.

The research is clear that when schools and families support each other, students of all backgrounds and various abilities achieve at higher levels. Based on the research, DeSoto ISD believes that parents, schools, families, and communities working together can create meaningful partnerships that ultimately lead to significant gains across the board in student achievement. Our objective is to increase student achievement by engaging and empowering parents to become actively involved in their children’s education across all grade levels.
