As the nation pauses to remember the 22nd Anniversary of the September 11 attacks on America, we also mark the bravery of the first responders who ran toward danger, aware of the life-changing danger it presented, to save the lives of others and protect the nation.

The lives lost in these attacks totaled nearly 3,000 people from 93 different nations who were in New York, Virginia, and Pennsylvania, including civilians and first responders (from 9/11memorial.org.)

Many remember the exact moment in time, the news of this then-unimaginable attack on our nation occurred via four planes, hijacked by terrorists, and flown into these critical areas of our nation's operations:

  • The Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City - a deliberate attack on U.S. capitalism, financial stability, and economy

  • The U.S. Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia - a deliberate attack on the center of America's military defense and national security

  • In a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania - This plane was diverted from the U.S. Capital by several brave passengers onboard who overtook the hijackers who were attempting to attack the nation's center of government, democracy, and freedom.

This attack was destined to bring America to its knees and cripple its global standing in the world economy. Instead, this catastrophe saw a larger showing of unity and camaraderie across various diversities from within the country and from allies and nations around the globe.

Each year, solemn ceremonies are occurring across the U.S. recalling these moments that changed many families and America forever, now also referenced as Patriot's Day. These celebrations, especially in Texas, are now coupled with a celebration of first responders who showed their bravery and made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, 2001, in addition to the critical role they play in today's society and community each day.
