Get ready to embark on an epic literary adventure! City of DeSoto Mayor Rachel L. Proctor, who is a district alum, is thrilled to extend a special invitation to DeSoto Independent School District scholars to participate in the 2024 Mayor’s Reading Club Challenge.

“This year, we're challenging all schools to rally their students and faculty to achieve the highest percentage of signups for the 2024 Summer Reading Club,” said Mayor Proctor. “The school that achieves the highest percentage of student signups and participation will be honored with a grand prize!”

Registration opened Monday, May 20, 2024, marking the start of scholars’ journey to lead their school towards victory!

As part of the challenge, students will begin logging reading time on June 3. Each day between June 3 and July 27, the last day to log reading time, participants will have access to literacy activities and are eligible to win prizes available for collection at the DeSoto Public Library. The top readers will be invited to an invite-only pizza party to close out a celebration of sizzling summer reading.

Parent and community involvement is key in nurturing a passion for reading and guaranteeing an exciting summer for everyone involved to support and encourage active summer reading.
