The DeSoto Independent School District Board of Trustees approved the district’s academic calendar for the upcoming school year following the review of three proposed recommendations offered by the district’s calendar committee in March of this year.
The calendar is now available online and features:
- First day of instruction on August 12, 2024;
- Last day of instruction on May 23, 2025;
- Election Day closures for November 5, 2024, as a school safety measure;
- more than the state-required 75,600 minutes of instruction;
- and provides teachers with 187 workdays, as required by the state.
The calendar also includes major holiday breaks as follows:
- Fall Break: October 7-11, 2024
- Thanksgiving Break: November 25-29, 2024
- Winter Break: December 23, 2024, through January 3, 2025
- Spring Break: March 10-14, 2025
- Good Friday: April 18, 2025
As supported by community survey input, the Board Approved calendar is a more innovative approach to the academic school year which added a Fall Break and retained Good Friday. The 2024-2025 calendar reflects 77,550 Instructional Minutes (1,950 more minutes than required by the state) and 167 Instructional Days.
