DeSoto ISD is committed to ensuring that students, without exception, learn and grow at their highest levels. DeSoto ISD is excited to offer Child Find services for students in its system. The purpose of Child Find is to locate, identify, and evaluate children from birth to 21 years of age and their possible need for special education and related services. Child Find is a free referral and information service available through local education agencies.

DeSoto ISD offers comprehensive special education services to eligible students ages three through 21 years and to children from birth through age 21 who have a hearing or visual impairment.

Additionally, children ages 3 or younger with other disabilities are referred to appropriate agencies for services on behalf of the district. All referrals are considered confidential, and services are provided at no cost. The parent, legal guardian, or surrogate parent retains the right to refuse services and are provided other procedural safeguards under federal and state law.

“In DeSoto ISD, we want to make sure that all of our students receive the best intervention services,” said Chasity Jackson, Director of Special Education. “We are elated to provide these services to our scholars.”

Evaluations in the schools are provided for several areas of suspected disabilities, including:

  • learning disabilities

  • speech and language development

  • physical impairments

  • vision or hearing problems

  • intellectual disability

  • emotional disturbances

  • autism

  • health impairments
