ALAINA SHELBY
Alaina Shelby
ECHS Counselor
(Grades 11-12)
[email protected]
I am Alaina Shelby and I am truly humbled to be a leader for DeSoto Early College High School. I have a passion for working with youth, parents and teachers to ensure that our scholars are well-rounded critical thinkers. I am a proud graduate from Prairie View A& M University with a Bachelors in Education and Masters in Ed. Leadership and Counseling. Recently, completed the Principalship program from University of North Texas Dallas and currently working on LPC at Amberton University.
I began my career in education in 2005 as an English Language Arts and Reading Teacher for Houston Independent School District. I bring a wealth of knowledge to this current leadership role of being a Counselor, which has provided me the necessary experiences that would make me an effective leader. As a highly enthusiastic individual with hands on experience for 17 years, I have served in many roles: English Teacher and 8th Grade Team Leader for Mesquite Independent School District. An Instructional Coach for ELAR, Testing Coordinator, Elementary Counselor, Middle School Counselor, and Early College Counselor for Dallas Independent School District. I was the 2017 nominee for Counselor of the Year and Master Counselor for Counseling Services in Dallas Independent School District. My natural flair for assisting students in meeting their educational goals and career aspirations will be an asset for my students here at Desoto Early College High School. Besides, I take pride in my familiarity with academic and social support where students are concerned.
When I am not shaping students at Desoto, I am dedicated to raising my two beautiful kings. During my free time I enjoy reading, music, art, nature, working out and bonding while serving the community with the women of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated.
