A child must be age 5 on or before Sept. 1 to enter kindergarten and age 6 to enter first grade. Please bring the following for each child:

Proof of Residency - Parent must show a current Texas driver’s license or Texas ID card and current gas, electric or utility receipt and a signed affidavit of residency (forms available at each school)

Breakfast and Lunches The DeSoto ISD makes nutritional breakfast and lunches available for all students. Menus are available at each school, online and monthly in the Focus newspaper. The free- and reduced-meal program is available for eligible students. Click here for more information.
Code of Conduct and Student Handbooks DeSoto ISD students and their parents are responsible for reading and understanding all policies outlined in the DeSoto ISD Code of Conduct as well as each campus student handbook. Any violations will be disciplined in accordance with the policies and the law. The entire Studnet Handbook and Code of Conduct is available by clicking here.
Transportation Services Transportation is available for students living two or more miles from their home schools. For more information and routes, contact your school. For transportation questions, please call Dallas County Schools at 972-224-8329.
Inclement Weather Alerts In the event of inclement weather, DeSoto ISD officials make every effort to notify the media prior to 6 a.m. of the day in question. In addition, the district utilizes an alert system to call and/or e-mail all DeSoto ISD families.
Student Dress Guidelines (Uniforms) DeSoto ISD has a uniform dress policy for students in all grades and at all campuses. In general, students must wear white, forest green, gold or black tops and khaki, black or DeSoto plaid bottoms. District administrative staff will have complete and final judgment on all matters concerning interpretation of the student uniform dress code. Click here for more details.
Student UIL Athletics Seventh- through twelfth-graders are eligible to participate in UIL competitive athletics. All participants must have physicals, parental acknowledgment forms, and emergency information on file before the first practice. Click here for forms and details.
Prekindergarten Program A child is eligible for Pre-K if the child is age 4 on or before Sept. 1 AND:

the family qualifies for free- or reduced-meal program, or
-
is unable to speak or comprehend English, or
-
is a homeless child, or
-
is the child of an active duty member of the armed forces or child of an injured or deceased member of the armed forces, or
-
has been or is in conservatorship of the state
